Georgie Bee aka Fancy Shews is one of East London’s most colourful, sexy, sassy, fun and fabulous Drag Queens. She’s a Dancer, performer and mega multi-faceted fierce femme and at this weekends Fèmmme Fraîche she’ll be flexing yet another string to her bow as she’ll be our Guest DJ upstairs in the bar. We had a little catch-up with her about lockdown woes, and DJ shows.

INTERVIEW WITH FANCY SHEWS

So Fancy Shews, we usually have you performing for us and strutting your stuff at our Fèmmme Fraîche event's but we're super excited to have you DJ-ing for us for the first time, so first of all describe your DJ style in five words?

clangers+bangers with gloves on

Haha, love that! So tell us, when did you start DJ-ing and what inspired you to start?

I started because I was given the opportunity to take on a friday night at the Queen Adelaide I think it was about 3/4 years ago now. I had always wanted to learn and had just quit an office job.

Oh we love the Queen Adelaide, sounds like a perfect reason to start! So is Dj-ing + Drag a thing that goes hand-in-hand and compliment each other, or are you keeping them separate?

Its quite difficult wearing headphones with a wig on to be honest. Drag is just another part of me. So if I am wearing it at the time, so be it.

Haha, well apart from the wig vs headphones conundrum, what did you find most challenging about starting to DJ?

I get very excited about the technical side of djing, and often want to bite off more than I can chew. It's important to get the basics first, then play around later.

YES, very good tip there, I second that. Now let's talk Lezzer parties, you're starting a new dyke night called Knickers-off at the mothership Dalston Superstore, which is tres exciting, tell us more about that?

My gf wanted to start her own night and together we are hoping to collide fashion and queer girls++ and a bit of silliness.

Fabulous, the more grrl parties the better I say! So let's talk C-word antics - how have you been coping or keeping yourself occupied during lockdown?

I would be kidding if I said I was coping 100%, but I have just been trying to refocus my energies on things and people I love.

Yup, I think we've all be 'coping' or coasting somewhat, what's the one thing you're most looking forward to returning though post-lockdown?

tkmaxx - sorry ! And travelling. I am used to performing and djing abroad as well and its been really heart-aching to not do that and see my friends in those places.

100% agreed, and what's the one thing you're dreading?

nothing!!!

Yeyy, bring on FREEDOM!! So finally, what can we expect to hear from you on Sat?

I really loved Kristy Harper/Samirah Raheems' My Body, My Future which she released in the first lockdown. So that and a bit more.

FAB, well we're exceited to hear Sat eve! Sadly for those of you who don't already have tix we are fully sold out. But make sure you follow Fancy Shews on her socials listed below to see where else you can catch her play and perform!
